Have you
ever watched a dragonfly for a long time? Make haste to have a look at
the dragonfly sitting here on the leaf or on the stone near the creek.
They are usually found around lakes, ponds, streams, and wetlands for
the reason that their larvae (known as nymphs) are aquatic. Follow a
winding garden path and reach a splashing waterfall. Discover our
birds and stroll amongst beautiful orchids, waterlilies and other
flowers while butterflies flutter around you. You may even be lucky
enough to have them land on you! Some
common species: Emperor (Anax imperator), Black-tailed skimmer (Orthetrum
cancellatum), Common whitetail (Libellula lydia), Migrant hawker (Aeshna
mixta)
Characteristics:
- Stout-bodied, brightly colored, with large
compound eyes and chewing mouth parts.
- Two pairs of elongate, membranous,
many-veined wings that always remain outstretched. Patterns of wing
venation distinguish between species and families.
