Day 01

Kota Kinabalu

Upon arrival, you will be transferred from airport to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure

Day 02

Kota Kinabalu / Poring Hot Springs - Kinabalu Parks          (B)

Depart early morning for a 3 hours drive to Poring Hot Spring. Explore the many jungle trails and observe wildlife on the canopy walkway, 100 feet above the forest floor. Then, proceed to Kinabalu Park after lunch. There, you will view a slide presentation and visit the mountain garden to explore the unique and endemic plant life found at Kinabalu Park.

Day 03

Rungus Longhouse                       (B,L, D)    

A 3 hours drive north of Kota Kinabalu, past Kota Belud, lies the Kudat District, the heart of the Rungus territory. Get a first hand experience of living in a longhouse with the Rungus people, one of Sabah's most colourful and traditional ethnic groups. Gain an insight into their unique communal lifestyle as you interact with these friendly people. Join them in an evening of merrymaking and sample traditional rice wine and join in the Mongigol dance.

Day 04

Sandakan                                   (B)

In the morning, return to Kota Kinabalu airport for flight to Sandakan. Lunch at your own expense at the airport. Upon arrival, check in to the Sandakan Hotel. Then, depart for a tour of the city which at one time boasted the greatest concentration of millionaires whose fortunes were founded on the timber trade.

Day 05

Sukau                                       (B)

In the morning, we will visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary to watch the feeding of orang utans and see a video presentation on the Orang Utan's rehabilitation programme. Then, depart for Sukau, situated by the Kinabatangan River and check into the River Lodge. In the afternoon, take a boat trip to view proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Return at night fall.

Day 06

Oxbow Lake-Gomantong Caves-Sandakan-Kota Kinabalu    (B)

Depart early morning for bird watching and to view other wildlife at the nearby Oxbow Lake. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Then, proceed back to Sandakan and fly on to Kota Kinabalu, calling on the way, at Gomantong Caves, the largest birds nest cave in Sabah, famous for their swiftlets and their edible nests. Lunch on your own expense at the airport.

Day 07

Gaya Island Daytrip      (B)

Take a half hour boat ride from Kota Kinabalu to Gaya Island. The island is covered with undisturbed lowland dipterocarp rainforest with pockets of mangrove forest and beach flora along the coast. A 1½ hour walk on one of the trails lead through coastal vegetation. Mud skippers can be seen from the boardwalk that runs through the mangrove forest. After lunch, the afternoon is free for swimming or snorkeling in the crystal clear water before we return to Kota Kinabalu.

Kota Kinabalu            (B)

After breakfast, transfer out to airport for departure flight.
