D'Paradise's Pangolin Sanctuary

This spectacular sanctuary could be your first time to see them in Malaysia

This spectacular sanctuary could be your first time to see them in Malaysia. Why not spend some time to know more about them. Pangolins, also called scaly anteaters, are toothless mammals of tropical Asia and Africa.

They belong to the Pholidota. They range in length from 3 to 6 feet including the long, broad tail with females being smaller than males. It has a pointed snout with a small mouth at the end. In fact, all visitors can see they use its long tongue to eat termites and ants and to drink. The body is low to the ground and is covered with large, triangular, overlapping scales on their skin. They can curl up into a ball when threatened, with their overlapping scales acting as armor. Pangolins have short legs, with sharp claws which they use for burrowing. The Pangolin also secretes a noxious smelling acid.

Our sanctuary is the wildlife reservation home for protecting them from danger. Their presence is classified as endangered. It has been hunted by people for its skin and meat for hundreds of years. Forest clearing is now destroying the animal’s habitat. Therefore, we preserve them for our young generations to have chance to see their real fantastic animal in the world!
